BETTER CHOICES = BETTER RESULTS

"Fully 35% to 50% of law firm associates leave within three years because the firms don't accommodate family needs ...." The Wall Street Journal (6/29/1999)

Stemming the tide of law firm associate (and partner) drop-outs has become a law practice issue of national significance. E.g., ABA Journal May/June 1999

"Rude awakenings" and dispelled illusions have given rise to increasingly wide-spread disenchantment with the realities of the traditional practice of law. Why?

At the top of the list - A lack of awareness of the vast array of contexts and disciplines in which "the law" is practiced; and a lack of programs to truly help students make informed choices about: (1) the vast array of "traditional" practice settings and practice areas; and (2) the vast array of "collateral" professions with law degree application, that will best fit each student's personal, family, and financial goals and lifestyle.

Result - Many students who should attend law school (whether or not they intend to actually "practice law") don't; many students who should not attend law school (because their concepts of the "practice of law" are incurably inaccurate and not at all compatible with their financial and personal life goals) do; and many first year law students are ill-prepared to maximize their talents in the context of law school.

The Need - More and better "real-world" knowledge and personal insight into the "traditional" and "non-traditional" contexts and disciplines of law, and "collateral" profession applications of law degrees.
